Couch Makeover: How to update an old couch with a few easy tools!
Finding a used couch that's both aesthetically pleasing and built to last can often feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Most of what you come across are beat-up couches from Amazon or IKEA, or old 80s pieces that no one wants. But when you do stumble upon a gem, you seize the opportunity and make it your own with a few quick updates. All it takes is a bit of elbow grease and a trusty Bissell upholstery cleaner—one of my best purchases ever, which has paid for itself many times over.
I'm excited to share the makeover journey of a vintage Ethan Allen couch I discovered at Habitat for Humanity. Some might find my approach a bit controversial, and that's perfectly fine. My goal is to do what brings me joy and to rescue classic furniture pieces from ending up in landfills.
Vintage Ethan Allen couch found at Habitat for Humanity
This vintage Ethan Allen couch is a rare find! Its neutral tone, thick, nubbly fabric, and pristine cushions make it a piece that can last for decades. It’s the most beautiful vintage couch I’ve come across in a while. See the full makeover process on YouTube!
The Makeover Process
Vacuum Thoroughly: Start by giving the entire couch a good vacuum to remove any dirt and debris.
Vacuum Again if Needed: If the couch is still dusty, give it another round of vacuuming.
Remove the Skirt: Carefully remove the couch skirt. Ensure you have the right tools and take your time to do this safely.
Clean with Bissell: Use your Bissell upholstery cleaner, taking your time to ensure a thorough clean.
Let Dry: Allow the couch to dry completely after cleaning.
Stage: Arrange the couch in your space or prepare it for photos.
List with Good Photos or Enjoy: If you plan to sell, take high-quality photos. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy your revamped couch.
What would you list this for in your market?
